Well, we finished our dissection yesterday. And, boy was this grass frog WAY better than a worm! First of all, it was obviously bigger so it was easier to see, and in the worm, since it was so small it was hard to cut without thinking your cutting up its whole digestive system- which I actually did; I accidently cut up part of the intestine but luckily my very smart partner had me start more at the end as a safety precaution- which was very much needed! Anyways, back to the frog. I really enjoyed because it was a much more fun way to learn than just looking at pictures on black and white paper compared to actually cutting it up yourself, looking at it yourself, and making observations by yourself. So, one of the things I thought was really cool was the the outer layer, or skin of the frog, because when I cut it, it was really leathery and exactly like a wetsuit. Next, when we took out the small intestine, I estimated it to be, what, maybe like 20-25 cm long or something. Was I shocked when it turned out to be over 40 cm! Furthermore, I though looking at the heart was really cool, because when we opened it, we found dried up blood inside! And the lungs to me looked like purple-ish sponges with pores! Other than that, we also got to see all of the digestive system, the mouth, the circulatory system, the kidneys, etc. After we were done dissecting with these main organs, we were free to dissect whatever we were interested in. Surprisingly, my group actually got to four of those: we looked at a lobe of the brain, we cut open the leg, which was exactly almost like the chicken leg, we cut open the back to look at the muscle, nerve cords, and vertebrae more, and while taking out the brain, we also popped out the two eyes- which I thought was really awesome. Not including the tons of moisture that came out when I was trying to poke it and cut through. Finally in the end though, we got the cornea out! But more than that, it was the apperance of the cornea that got me; it was like this small little yellowish marble, not at all like what I expected it to be. In conclusion, this was sadly our last dissection of the year, and I wish we would do more...
Ehhh since no one even tried to answer the frog jokes, I'll just give you folks the answer:
1) What kind of shoes do frogs wear? OPEN TOAD! hahahahaha :P
2) What happens to the frog when it parks in a "no parking" zone? IT GETS TOAD AWAY! hahahahaha :P
